Facts:
As a university of the State of Hesse, the Technische Universität Darmstadt with full autonomy is responsible for its own administration, whilst remaining under legal state control. It is divided into schools, the central bodies and the University administration. The central bodies consist of the Präsidium (i.e. the University´s chief executive and administrative body composed of the President, being the head of the University, the Vice-President and the Chancellor) as well as the Senate and the Senate Committees. The President represents the University in public. He is elected for a period of six years, and he may also be re-elected. The Chancellor attends to the day-to-day administration of the University according to the guidelines laid down by the University´s chief executive and administrative body. He is elected for a period of eight years on the President´s suggestion. The chief administrative official of a School is the Dean, who is elected by the School Council for at least two years. His two deputies are the Prodekan (the future Dean) and the Prädekan (the previous Dean).
