Founded in 1896, Tomsk Polytechnic University became the first technical educational institution in the Asian part of Russia. TPU today is: 22261 students; 1741 foreign students; 4657 teachers (90 professors; 159 Doctors of Sciences; 442 associate professors; 809 Candidates of Sciences (PhDs) 58 senior researchers); 9 institutes; 10 faculties; 3 research institutes; 89 specialist’s branches of study; 26 bachelor’s branches of study; 113 master’s programmes in the sphere of technical, natural and socioeconomic sciences and humanities. The University scientists have contributed to the development of nuclear physics, computer and information systems, electronics and microelectronics, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering and geology. TPU cooperates with universities of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France and other countries. Today, TPU has signed collaboration agreements with 150 universities throughout the world. TPU has been admitted to CESAER, CLUSTER, EUA and other international organizations. The University holds the Certificate of the State Accreditation. First in Russia, Tomsk Polytechnic University on the whole and five educational programmes in English in particular, have been certified by the Global Alliance for Transnational Education (USA), the quality management system has been developed, assessed and registered by National Quality Assurance Ltd. (UK). As a result, TPU has participated in a number of international programmes and projects, such as TEMPUS, DAAD, TACIS, INTAS and others.
