Facts:
Eight centuries after its foundation (which dates back to 1222), the University of Padua goes on teaching to respect different views, freedom of thought, opinion and research. The University’s historic motto Universa Universis Patavina Libertas (Liberty of Padua, universally and for all) reflects the great freedom of thought granted by the University to professors and students. Studying in Padua means joining one of Europe’s most qualified learning and research communities and living in a city that brims with culture, artistic beauty and hospitality. Throughout these centuries many scientists, jurists and literati made Padova University a centre which irradiated culture all over Europe. To name a few: Nicolaus Copernicus, Andreas Vesalius, Galileo Galilei, William Harvey, Erasmus from Rotterdam, Ugo Foscolo. Today, the University of Padova is organised in 8 Schools (Agriculture and Veterinary, Human and Social Sciences, Economics and Political Science, Engineering, Law, Science, Medicine, Psychology) and out of 65.000 students overall, about 13.000 are Engineering students. The Engineering School encompasses civil, industrial, and information technology engineering, and is involved in teaching as well as in research. With its pioneering approach to innovative technology, including the emerging field of life sciences (biomedical engineering and bioengineering), the School is a multi-faceted centre of excellence.
